Welcome Jim and Brian. It sounds like you guys are ideally qualified to propel Bioconductor through the next stage in its evolution. I look forward to working with you (and the remaining members of the team) as we take Bioconductor in new directions. In September the Bioconductor project relocated from Seattle, Washington to Buffalo, New York and along with the geographical change came a few staff changes. A big thank you to Marc, Sonail and Paul for their contributions to the project. They were instrumental in the design and implementation of AnnotationHub (and annotations in general), tools for biological network analysis, educational materials and many other areas. Thanks guys. You will be missed. Here in Buffalo we're pleased to welcome two new members, Jim Java and Brian Long. Jim formerly worked as a biostatistician analyzing clinical trial data and as a software engineer for several companies, with projects ranging from point-of-sale (POS) software to embedded systems. He has a Ph.D. in computer science (focused on natural language processing), and master's degrees in biostatistics and English literature. Brian has worked in software development with a focus on relational database & NoSQL storage, UI/UX design, security and scale. Most recently, he's been part of a team to develop a Platform-as-a-Service (similar to Google App Engine). The platform offering allows application developers to deploy components to on-demand virtual infrastructure and supports a large number of programming languages via Apache Thrift. Please join us in welcoming Jim and Brian to the team! Valerie This email message may contain legally privileged and/or confidential information.
