Dear all,
What are your thoughts about adding a new generic to BiocGenerics:
setGeneric("compare", function(x, y, ...) setGeneric("compare"))
I have spotted a couple of existing cases on CRAN (lava (S3) and NMF
(S4) with signature function(object, ...)) and CMA::compare (with a very
different signature) on Bioc (maintainer cc'ed).
I could do that but that would help only if the CRAN package agrees to depend on BiocGenerics, which is unlikely. (I can see how a CRAN maintainer could be reluctant to depend on a BioC package.) Even with BiocGenerics around, it's hard to avoid this kind of clash.
Indeed. There are so many compareFoo, compareBar, ... that I thought a generics would have made sense. But I appreciate that introducing it would be quite disruptive. I suppose I will make my own compareBaz then. Thanks. Laurent
H.
Best wishes, Laurent
