1. When you click "new post" I think there should be some mention that if you report an issue with a specific package, you should tag the post with package name. 2. Is there a way to have default signature? 3. Is there some way to modify the layout. I am getting confused by all the colors and text and stuff. I really want to see the title of the posts much more clearly. 4. It was not immediately clear to me that the big "Messages" really are private messages and that I should click on "LATEST" or "OPEN" (which appear smaller than messages in my browser) to see the forum. In fact, there seems to be three buttons which are critical to the new user (like me) and they are "LATEST", (perhaps) "OPEN" and "New Post". Everything else should be made smaller and less in your face, I think. Best, Kasper

0. Overall, the new site is great. Some of the threads now turn into valuable little mini-blogs or discussion pages on a specialized topic. 1. I tend to agree with Kasper. The site layout looks a bit too cluttered to me, with all these boxes of votes, views and response counts in different colours, breathless reporting of recent locations, bold face subject headers and what not. Of course, these things are a matter of taste, although I am sure there also now lots of people who approach this topic scientifically and rationally. 2. I agree that ?LATEST? and ?OPEN? could be more prominent (and ?Messages? less so). It took me a great while to discover them (cf. point 1.) Best wishes Wolfgang Il giorno 26 Sep 2014, alle ore 20:35, Kasper Daniel Hansen <kasperdanielhansen at gmail.com> ha scritto:

Thanks for the feedback. I'm a little puzzled by the 'Messages' being somehow disproportionately large and wonder whether that's a browser-specific thing. I also find things a little noisy. Here's a cheap fix -- narrow your browser window. The site will go into 'mobile' mode, with nice clean presentation. Martin

No wonder I couldn't see all these things people were mentioning (I turn my monitor sideways). One problem is that the "mobile" version does not offer a button for up-voting, nor are any votes shown. That's sort of an important feature, right?

About the usability/clutter/UI -- IMHO, I think the bioconductor logo/banner is a bit too big and moving all of "the stuff" that's to the right of it "so far to the right" might be contributing to some of the disorientation (at least, I feel that it does to me). Perhaps moving the logo all the way to the right side of the top level buttons (and making it smaller) might be something to try. @kasper: with regards to your "custom signature" question (question 2 in your post), do you mean like the signatures people put at the bottom of an email? IMHO, I don't think signatures actually have a place on these boards, and it's better to just let your user page be the place where people go to be informed of the things you'd put in your signature. -steve On Fri, Sep 26, 2014 at 3:41 PM, Michael Lawrence

Yup, moving it to the right as is makes it more appealing. See attached screenshot (just added style="float: right" to the logo div). I also added a screenshot where the "personal banner" was moved (moved its div by cut'n'pasting) to the very top such that "LATEST | OPEN | INSTALL | ..." just appears closer to the actual list of topics. Just protoypes (for the "large" Bootstrap style) /Henrik
