Hi all, As demo'd at BioC2006, we have an alpha version of a search tool for BioC packages. It is rough around the edges, but some feedback at this point would be helpful. If you give it a try, please let me know what you (dis)like, etc. http://mamba41.fhcrc.org/apptest/biocPackageSearch/ Known issues: * Package information not yet automatically updated * Package function/symbol index very incomplete * Depends/Suggests/Imports only searches Depends + seth
[Bioc-devel] BioC Package Search ALPHA
3 messages · Seth Falcon, Diego Diez
Hi Seth, it is a very nice tool, that may help to search for the needed package now that bioc is growing so much. I think I would like to have a way to short the selection of biocViews and Maintainer, using a letter index for example. And a "first" and "last" link could be great also. Now you have to navigate 38 pages to get the last biocViews :) It is a very promising tool. D.

Thanks very much for the feedback. I've added a "first" and "last" link to the TODO list and will also consider a letter or separate search box for maintainers and views. For the views, I have some ideas on using the relationship among the terms for a more hierarchical presentation, but have not yet had time to play with it. Anyhow, I'm going to collect more feedback for a few more days before trying to attempt some improvements. [so if anyone else wants to speak up, now is a good time]. Best, + seth
