Constantin Ahlmann-Eltze is going to introduce us to the sparseMatrixStats
package for high-performance computation on sparse matrices.  Some of the
benchmarking in the package vignette looks very impressive, and I'm excited
to learn more about both sparse matrices in general and the performance
gains the package might help us realise.
