I have moved the R-announce mailing list from the Majordomo software to a combination of procmail & mailman an hour or so ago. You find a link in the footer of this message giving an URL where you can modify your subscription, look at the archives (everything from the beginning in 1997) and more. CHANGE: Postings to R-announce are now moderated, ie. they have to be approved by a list maintainer unless they come from one of a small set of R developers. Note that *everyone* subscribed to R-help also gets R-announce messages without a need to subscribe. Notice that the "Sender:" field of these e-mails has changed from owner-r-announce to r-announce-admin. Those who use mail-filtering rules may wish to adapt. We expect faster mail delivery and an easier user (and maintainer!) interface. Feedback welcome, to me privately or R-help. The R-help mailing list (and its "digest") version will move to mailman too. R-announce moved from majordomo to [procmail+mailman]

Dear readers of R-announce and R-help.
Yesterday, I sent a message with
Subject: R-announce moved from majordomo to [procmail+mailman]
on Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2002 18:39:45 +0100
to R-announce and hence R-help.
Many of you will have received the message several times,
typically from half a dozen to about 25x.
I do apologize for this.
The reason was the automatic gateway ("forwarding") of all
R-announce messages to R-help that accidentally produced a mail
loop. I only found out relatively late (~ 20 min after
sending), and had to stop delivery entirely for which several of
you probably haven't received that message at all.
The new web interface to the list is now available at
https://www.stat.math.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/r-announce
and particularly the __archive__ contains yesterday's message
as https://www.stat.math.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-announce/2002/000362.html
(and yes, you should accept the security certificate _once_).
Again with apologies and regards,
Martin Maechler <maechler at stat.math.ethz.ch> http://stat.ethz.ch/~maechler/
