update.packages keeps trying to update gregmisc
This is due to the inconsistent way gregmisc has been unbundled. There was a gregmisc 2.0-7 containing gplots etc as part of a bundle, and there are also versions of gplots etc *with the same version number* which are not part of a bundle. The only way out I have found is to remove gregmisc and, if necessary, its former component packages, and then re-install gplots etc.

If I issue the command
update.packages()
it wants to update 'gregmisc' but then if I do it again right afterwards it still wants to update 'gregmisc'. It should have updated everything the first time and should not be trying to update anything the second time. Any comments? Here is the transcript of a session (R version at end):
