recent R versions on alpha-osf-4

Hello,
I'm keen to get R working on the alpha, but haven't managed to build
anything that gets past the "make test" stage. There used to be some
documentation about -mieee_ type changes, but I never had any luck with
these. I'd like to build my own version because I don't have root access
to install the binary version.

Has anyone else had any luck with this? I can't see anything suggesting
ways to go in the documents with R-0.65.
