Sure.
At the end of ./configure in the unpacked R-1.1.0 directory I get:
R is now configured for i686-pc-linux-gnu
Source directory: .
Installation directory: /usr/local.own
C compiler: gcc -mieee-fp -D__NO_MATH_INLINES -g -O2
FORTRAN compiler: g77 -g -O2
X11 support: yes
Gnome support: no
Tcl/Tk support: yes
I append below the config.cache that is created.
My system is essentially a RedHat 6.0 with a 2.2.10 kernel.
I am using the Pentium GCC (http://www.goof.com/pcg/)
bossiaea:/opt/R/R-1.1.0$ which gcc
/usr/local.own/bin/gcc
bossiaea:/opt/R/R-1.1.0$ gcc --version
pgcc-2.91.60
I suspect a bug in that compiler, as you had problems with NAs, and that is the only thing that seems different from known working setups. My suggestion would be to use gcc-2.95.2, which I compiled from source and works well for us on RH6.0. Or even try the compiler that comes with RH6.0 (egcs-2.91.66, I believe). Brian
