If you feel the need to file a report to R-bugs on a package, we do need an
example that we can reproduce and work on. On the evidence so far I am
not convinced there is a bug here.
I'll just add that there is a slot called "Packages" in the bug filing system which holds reports that don't pertain to R itself. This is partly intended as a service to package writers, partly to have a place to file the reports, since there is no obvious way of keeping people from sending them in... I see nothing wrong in itself with discussing problems in packages on R-devel, but it may be a bit futile if the package author/porter isn't listening.
