It looks like there may be a mismatch between the library function and the C code ... the help file for eigen() says that the function checks to see if the matrix is symmetrix first, and passes it off to different routines in different cases. It looks like eigen() doesn't actually bother to do any checking, and just *assumes* it's symmetric ...
