anon cvs?

Is there a way to do this on Windows, as well?

We don't have anon cvs, but you can use rsync to get the source.  Try 

rsync rsync.r-project.org:: 

to see a list of the available directories.

It's not quite as convenient as anon cvs, but it's pretty close.

There are windows rsync clients; I know that Cygwin has one, not sure
where to find native ones, but they most likely exist.
