After that long-winded introduction, my question is: Has anyone gotten a working installation of R on RedHat 7, or on any other system with the version 8.3 tcl/tk libraries, or been able to get the earlier libraries to work under RH7??
I think Brian Ripley has been using the 8.3 libraries on windows. delTcl is on the R side of things, defined in tcltk.c, so you're getting some pretty strange errors there. I suspect your best bet is to install R from source, which ought to be pretty easy - or at any rate, we'd like to know about any trouble you run into.
As I already have informed you folks, I have installed R-1.1.1 on RedHat 7.0 from source, without any problems. Besides that some on this list seemed to worry about the warnings the gcc compiler issued. Nevertheless, I haven' noticed any anomalies with the installed R. Haven't been hard-testing, though. RH 7.0 comes with gcc 2.96, which, according to gcc.gnu.org, "is not a formal GCC release nor will there ever be such a release. Rather, GCC 2.96 has been the code-name for our development branch that will eventually become GCC 3.0". Should this make us 7.0 users nervous? G?ran
