I would like to use 'optim' with method="L-BFGS-B". But I could not figure out, how to get the function value after any iteration, like You get them using method="BFGS"?
You mean as debugging trace? That is set up differently for each of the optimization methods, and not available for L-BFGS-B. The best idea is to make your function print out the value each time it is called.
