Well, you can only use postscript fonts in postscript(). But as the help page says, you can use any postscript font family for which you have the font metric files and downloadable versions of the font. You don't `create fonts for graphics', you use existing ones (unless you are a multi-talented font designer, and some of feel even Don Knuth exceeed his limits there).
(I am using R 1.2.1, regrettably the Windows version).
Eh? In that`regretable' version you have many more choices, including using Verdana via e.g. win.printer(). I have no idea if Verdana exists as a postscript font, but in general True Type fonts can be converted if their licences permit.
