Can't read foreign datasets

R-Team:

I am having difficulty reading a SAS transport or an SPSS portable file in
Windows (Windows 2000) using the 1.2.0 version of foreign.  I had been able to
read them in the 1.0 versions of R.  When I try, I get an unknown error and R
shuts down.  The lookup.xport(fileName) command seems to work -- the number of
variables and rows as reported by lookup.xport are correct.  But when I use
read.xport or read.spss, R generates a popup box on the screen saying "Rgui.exe
has generated errors and will be closed by Windows".

Any help would be appreciated.
