mgcv package, problems with NAs in gam
Grace: Confession: I loved that error message! -- and it seems pretty clear to me. What does "to no avail" mean -- in particular, what happened when you changed your NA's to 0? Presumably you did not get the same error message, again, but something else, right? What else? Modulo the above vagueness, I would guess you're stuck -- you can't do what you'd like with your data. If so, John Tukey's remark from decades ago seems apropos: "The combination of some data and an aching desire for an answer does not ensure that a reasonable answer can be extracted from a given body of data." American Statistician 40 (1986) But if you post with greater clarity -- or get a response from someone with a greater brain -- maybe there's hope. Cheers, Bert
