Invalid Page fault - R ver 1.0.0 on Windows98 SE
Thanks for your help. To answer your question, it is a bit involved process
to upgrade for me (as I use R in a "production" environment).

Thanks for the quick response Prof. Ripley. I will try to upgrade over
the
holidays. In the meantime, I will try to reproduce the page fault. Unfortunately, it does not happen at the same place at all times. I have noticed that, cut and paste from window's notepad did not produce the
fault
while it did while doing so from the Programmer's File Editor 1.01
(beware
though since my sample sizes are small). It happen sometimes while simply doing command line editing. BTW: doing a quickview of CRTDLL.DLL shows (on my system) in the Export table that for the ordinal 017f, the entry point is 0000be95 and the name is fwscanf Does that help any? TIA.
It seems to be the bug mentioned by Prof Brian D Ripley. The problem is not pasting (I also thought this would be the problem at first), but a problem with the command history. If you have got a big number of short lines, i.e. more than 512 lines with less than 16kB in your history, R-1.0.0 crashes sometimes. I do not understand why you don't want to upgrade at once. Upgrading takes mostly less time than writing this mail ;-). A quick workaround (so the next 512 lines will): Delete your file .Rhistory .
