You haven't told us your version of R, but under Windows, yes it is right. Not everything on every help page works in every port of R. We would like to add data entry to the Windows version, but doing so without going way outside the Windows look-and-feel seems difficult without using proprietary M$ code (as is used in Excel, for example). If anyone knows better, please tell us how to do it (or contribute the code). Brian Ripley
