automatic generation of variable names

Hi,

is there some way to generate a varaible name automatically?

table1 <- orderbysomecolumn
table2 <- orderbysomecolumn
table3 <- orderbysomecolumn
...

automate
--------
for (i in 1:numoftables) {
   table%someconcatenation%i <- orderbysomecolumn
}
