how to identify which value is missing from array/variable

i have variable  C  as  ------------>

c

[1]  1  2  3  6  7  8 12 13 14 15 16 17 18


 want to check variable sequentially for missing values/integers & reporting
their positions,
latter on,i  want to fill with appropriate /missed values increasingly.
