For clarification are you referring to using help.search("KeyWord") or help.start()?

I am guessing the latter.

One quick check: Be sure that JavaScript for Navigator is enabled, which is on the
Advanced -> Scripts & Plug-Ins tab in Preferences. Both need to be enabled.

Both work for me using R 1.6.1 under RH 8.0, however I am using the Gtk2/Xft enabled
version of Mozilla 1.2b, which is available at:

http://komodo.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/experimental/gtk2/

This version, while pre-release, has been very stable and makes a major difference in readability.

I am also using Java V1.4.1, which is available here:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html

Finally, I am now running kernel V2.4.18-18.8.0. This is two updates since the original release.

So, there may be differences in our respective configurations that could possibly
confound a common solution.

Let me know on these and I can try to assist if the JavaScript check does not help.

Regards,

Marc Schwartz

The help.start() search engine does seem to be very sensitive to versions
of Mozilla (and Netscape based on Mozilla). For me (under RH7.2), 1.0
worked, 1.1 did not and 1.2beta does, as does Netscape 7.0 (but
not its PR1). I have not tried 1.0.1, but an upgrade seems a good idea.
