cannot load R help

Dear Sir,

After installing the OSX 10.3.4 update recently, I find that I cannot 
load R help and get the message:
 > help.start()
Making links in per-session dir ...
If /usr/bin/open is already running, it is *not* restarted, and you 
must switch to its
     window.
Otherwise, be patient ...

Please help me to fix this problem. Thank you very much.
