How can i change the number of iterations in lme function

Assuming you are using package nlme. Have you tried ?lmeControl and seen the msMaxIter and/or msMaxEval arguments. You can set these with the control argument of lme. Reading and browsing the help of a package really can be quite helpful. Berend
