(1) Thanks to Murray Jorgensen, we have discovered that there may be some problems if you install R for Windows in a path containing spaces. You should not experience problems if the shortcut used to run R has the short (8+3) file names, and it often will (which is why we had not thought this a problem). However, the best solution is to avoid paths with spaces in until the next release. Incidentally, the Unix version probably has similar problems if it is installed in a path with spaces in, or the tmpdir path has spaces in. We presume no one does that! (2) Thank you for all the feedback on help systems. All of those who got the compiled HTML help to work (and that was almost everybody) liked it a lot, and several liked the Windows-style help. There was a bit of confusion: a few people assumed that because CHTML needed IE4 installed that it used IE4: it does not, but it uses DLLs that IE4 or later install for one. We have shipped rw0651 with all the help systems (and the formatting of Windows help is much improved over the test version). However, the first version of rw0651ch.zip was missing the index and full search facilities (a version problem in the help compiler) and Guido has put up a revised version (dated 10/10/99, size 768k) to which you might like to upgrade.
