I think that R-news uses a spam filter already now: the level of spam is very low, at least at the same level as attained wit Spam Assassin. Most of the spam is incredibly stupid and gets caught by simple minded, static filter like the Spam Assassin, but not all. Some people run their Spam through Spam Assassin and change it slightly so that it passes the filter. Happily they are still in minority. If R wishes to introduce a better spam filtering than now, it should try something more clever, like Eric Raymond's learning Bayesian spam filter (http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/bogofilter/). Actually, R list could have this filter just for the joy of having a Bayesian spam filter. Preferably, that could use R engine and perhaps one of the two alternative SOM implementations (GeneSOM package, SOM in MASS) could be made to serve as a learning spam filter. cheers, jari oksanen -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~hornik/R/R-FAQ.html Send "info", "help", or "[un]subscribe" (in the "body", not the subject !)
