Is it possible to use Eclipse (StatET) to connect to an rterm instance running on another computer? It looks like it should be easy, but when I select an R Engine it says "Connection failed to: hostname" everytime. Is there a guide somewhere?

Yes. You can launch, disconnect and reconnect to a remote R console.
