can you explain how it works?

I hope it's in the documentation.

I tried to do like the example but it doesn't work

It's a great idea to tell us

a) what you are going to do exactly,
b) what was not working, including any error message,
c) the package you are using (I guess R2HTML),
d) the version of R you are using,
e) the OS you are working with.

It's also a good idea to contact the package maintainer at first.

In other words: We can only guess what's going on, since almost all 
relevant information is missing ...
