problems downloading R-1.6.1

Hi!

There is a "musical" note next to the rpm in CRAN and its mirrors and
it seems to require some sort of plugin that I don't have. Is there a
way around that?

Thanks.

This is generic brain-damage caused by assuming that file extensions
uniquely determine the content (same effect as assuming that
README.DOC files are all in MS Word format). There's an audio format
also called RPM (a version of RealAudio, it seems).

Normally, there's a way to tell your browser to download links instead
of displaying them, thus bypassing any plugin "requirement". In
Mozilla it's Shift-Button-1.

thanks, I'll remember that. FWIW, I got around this problem using
wget.

I do get an error installing the rpm tho:

[root at home tmp]# rpm -Uvh R-1.6.1-1.i386.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]

and trying to run:

Fatal error: Probably no X11 support: the shared library was not found
