I am trying to download R using the SetupR.exe file from http://cran.us.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/ I am expecting a dialogue box but all I get is what looks like an image of a broken quicktime logo. When you run the executable you do get a dialog box, provided you have an exact copy, and provided your machine is virus-free. SetupR.exe *is* R; there is nothing more to download. There is an article about this in R-news, http://cran.r-project.org/doc/Rnews/Rnews_2001-2.pdf No one else has reported a problem, so it seems unlikely that the CRAN original is corrupt.

Dear John, this sounds like you are trying to run SetupR.exe over the net, and the Quicktime plugin of your browser is trying to run the executable. I suggest that you right-click on the file and do a "save as" and save SetupR.exe on your hard disk. On completion of the download run the SetupR.exe from you machine, which should work just fine.
