To the R-help list, In the documentation of the prop.trend.test function in the stats package, no bibliography has been provided which would allow one to find out the theoretical basis of that function and/or details of its implementation. May I suggest that some bibliography be included, as it generally happens with other statistical functions. I currently use R 2.8.0 running on Windows XP. Search on: cochran-armitage trend test Goes back to the Forties or Fifties. My copy or Statistical Methods in Medical Research describes it, gives a justification, and cites: Armitage (1955) "Tests for linear trends in proportions and frequencies." Biometrics, 11, 375-386. My copy of Snedecor and Cochran simply describes it as a linear regression on proportions and cites Yates, Biometrika 32 (1948): 176
