problems with lme

I've recently downloaded the latest version of R and tried to use
the lme library. When loading lme, I get the following error message:
Error in dyn.load(x, as.logical(local), as.logical (now)):
unable to load shared library "C:\R\RW1000/library/lme/libs/lme.dll":

I have R loaded on a machine running Win98.

Thanks in advance,

Package lme is _not_ designed for R 1.0.0.

Try package nlme, available at CRAN.
