Sorry to bother the help list with this, but I've sent two messages to:

cran at r-project.org

to notify about an upload and both have bounced due to:

<cran at r-project.org>: Mail Server is down or unreachable.

Thanks

Jim

Why should *that* be reachable?

The R FAQ (and other places) contains

FAQ> To "submit" to CRAN, simply upload to
FAQ> `ftp://cran.r-project.org/incoming/' and send an email to
 FAQ> <wwwadmin at cran.r-project.org>.

which is quite a different address.

((can you really not get rid of such stuff -- particularly when

a lot of nonsense (below)

My sincere apologies, particularly to Jim!

Yes, that address *should* work, and it's a problem of the
R-Project server (at U Wisconsin, thanks to Doug Bates).

Martin.

Martin Maechler <maechler at stat.math.ethz.ch> writes:
I corresponded privately with Jim about the bounce and I can't see
that there is a problem with the machine that serves as the MX host
for the r-project.org domain. I think the problem may have been local
to Jim - the mailserver in question could have been his local SMTP
server.
