C wrapper syntax?

I would like to make a windows version of "dataentry" which should be a
simple dialog box with one of the available MFC based grid control.
This got me interested in the wrapping code used to call C functions.
Although most of the syntax can be derived from existing code, I would be
interested if there is a more formal specification.
