tab auto-fill and arrow keys are not working in R on a linux cluster

Hi List,

We have R 3.1.0 installed on the head node of our linux cluster, but the tab auto-complete and the arrow keys are not working.? When I was trying to use the up/down arrow key to scroll through the old command history I got something like this.? Any ideas on what's going on here?
