How to upgrade from 2.15.1 to 2.15.1 patched?

You can do /much/ better than the default configure.  

For local builds of eg R-devel (straight off SVN) I have a script which was
posted here not so long ago, and Michael also posted it on his new-ish
blog. You can trivially substitute R-patched for R-devel.

Now, if someone __really__ wants or needs R-patched packaged, we could
conceivably look into this (re-)using the launchpad infrastructure. I won't
have time to drive this in the near future, and I presume Michael has more
pressing issues too, but we are generally happy to help others.
Thanks a lot, this is a great list. I hope I have some more problems for this
list in the future :-)

The patch is indeed not too serious in my case, so I might stick with the 2.15.1 version
then, given that I'm not experienced with creating deb's (but I'll give it a try
just to see how far I can get). 

Concerning patched versions of R in general, as far as I know, R Core is going
towards a new system. Instead of having two new releases per year, they plan to
have one major release and then a (smaller) patch-release. Now at the moment,
it seems that there is no "single" patch release (yet). But if that will come at
some point in the future, it might be good to have a packaged version. I would
definitely upgrade.
