This course focuses on modern approaches to time series analysis for ecological and environmental data. While traditional forecasting methods are briefly introduced, the main emphasis is on dynamic Bayesian models that can handle features commonly found in real ecological time series, such as non-linearity, overdispersion, missing data, and temporal dependence.
Participants will learn how to:
Explore and visualise time series data
2. Fit dynamic regression and smoothing models with temporal processes
3. Critically assess, compare, and visualise fitted models
4. Produce forecasts and evaluate their performance using probabilistic approaches
