Learn how to build powerful *interactive maps and web mapping applications
in R* in our live online course *Interactive Maps with tmap & Shiny
(IMTS01)*.

https://prstats.org/course/interactive-maps-with-tmap-shiny-imts01/

*Instructor* - Dr. Martijn Tennekes (author of the tmap package)

Interactive maps are increasingly used for exploring spatial data,
communicating results, and building decision-support tools. This course
provides practical training in creating interactive maps using the
*tmap* package
and integrating them into *Shiny applications*, allowing you to turn
spatial analyses into dynamic web-based tools. Interactive mapping
frameworks such as tmap enable users to visualise spatial patterns and
explore datasets through map layers, zooming, and dynamic interaction.

Participants will learn how to build interactive mapping workflows that can
be deployed as dashboards, data exploration tools, or web applications.

*The course covers:*

   -

Foundations of interactive spatial data visualisation in R
   -

Creating interactive maps using the *tmap* package
   -

Working with spatial data using packages such as *sf*
   -

Building user interfaces and reactive elements with *Shiny*
   -

   Integrating maps into interactive dashboards
   -

Exporting and deploying web-based mapping applications

Through hands-on exercises and real datasets, participants will gain
practical experience designing interactive maps and building simple Shiny
applications for spatial data exploration and communication.

Delivered live online, the course offers direct interaction with the
instructor, opportunities to ask questions, and discussion of real research
or data visualisation applications. All participants receive course
materials, example code, and post-course support.

*Course details*
Dates: 27-29 May 2026

This course is suitable for postgraduate students, researchers, analysts,
and professionals who want to develop practical skills in building
interactive maps and spatial dashboards in R.
