Dear all,
registrations are now open for the 3rd edition of the upcoming online course, ?Analysing Biodiversity through Time and Space Using R?, taking place from 13th to 17th July.

This course provides a comprehensive, hands-on guide to constructing reproducible workflows for biodiversity data acquisition, cleaning, and analysis in R. The workflows will be applicable to both palaeontological and modern datasets, enabling seamless integration for analysis across temporal and spatial scales.

Each day, participants will explore the processes shaping biodiversity patterns, including latitudinal gradients, hotspots, and mass extinctions, with discussions providing context for practical exercises. These exercises focus on identifying errors and sampling artefacts in biodiversity datasets, estimating diversity and diversification rates, and visualising data to understand its limitations.

By the end of the course, participants will have a clear understanding of occurrence data, GIS applications, chronostratigraphy, palaeogeographic models, diversity metrics, and methods to account for sampling variation. You will also learn to bridge modern and fossil biodiversity analyses, quantify ecological diversity, and test hypotheses on biodiversity patterns.

The course is structured with lectures and discussions from 15:00 to 18:00 Berlin time, complemented by self-paced practicals of approximately four hours daily. A pre-course optional refresher on base R is available for those who wish to strengthen their programming foundation.
