Thanks to Martyn, it is available from CRAN mirrors, such as: http://cran.us.r-project.org/bin/linux/redhat/fedora9/i386/R-2.8.0-1.fc9.i386.rpm If you want to add a CRAN mirror to your yum list of repos, see: http://cran.us.r-project.org/bin/linux/redhat/fedora7/i386/ReadMe It would appear that 2.8.0 is not yet in Koji, which is the Fedora build system. Given the Fedora Karma system, it can be at least a couple of weeks after it is available there: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=1230 It would then show up in Bodhi: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/R where folks can test the RPM and bump the Karma to push it to release. I am guessing that there might be a delay in availability due to the activity surrounding the very recent discussion on the consolidation of R and R-devel to facilitate the installation of CRAN source code packages, but would defer to Tom on that. Also, the fact that I just noticed 2.8.0 was out might have something to do with it... :/ Give me an hour or so, and I should be able to have the new and improved version out. ~tom

Please let us know when it will be available I have ~15 packages from Bioconductor to update with this version of R :) Thanks, Pierre

You can subscribe to the R-announce list. This is a very low-volume list that has only official R announcements from the core team or the foundation: https://stat.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/r-announce

If its not too late, can you add libtiff-devel as a build requirement?
This will enable the tiff() graphics device, which is not currently
enabled. Its cousins, the png() and jpeg() devices are enabled.
Thanks also for the bzip2 patch. I will see to this in the morning.
Martyn

Sure, I'll enable that. Thanks for the headsup. ~tom

Many thanks, Tom, for having put R 2.8.0 at Koji: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=67601 Paul

I just finished submitting the update for R-2.8.0 for Fedora 8 and Fedora 9. Rawhide (aka, Fedora 10) has it already. Please test these new R packages and leave a "works-for-me" comment on the update if it works for you. :) F8: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/rpy-1.0.3-4.fc8,R-2.8.0-2.fc8 F9: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/rpy-1.0.3-4.fc9,R-2.8.0-2.fc9 Thanks, ~spot

Tom, just one more thing: I wonder if this bundling of R and rpy is fortunate. Most R users don't (AFAIK) use rpy, and won't be able to test whether it works. -pd

Since rpy is tied so closely to R, we have to do them both at the same time or else rpy won't even install. On the plus side, rpy almost never breaks. Testing R is good enough for me to flip it to stable. :) ~spot
