Hello folks, Is there an open source resource (or an R package) to get company relationships, such as competition, supplier etc? Hoover seems to provide this information. What is the best approach to create a custom mapping? Thanks Anshul
Resource for company relationship

I can't speak to an open source for the *data*, but the FinancialInstrument package (on R-Forge) is extensible as to what attributes you choose to store, and can create hierarchies of any attributes that you apply to instruments. Otherwise, probably build a database for your reference data. Regards, Brian

I'm not sure if this is the correct mailing list for this information (I suppose it has a tangential use if one is willing to look for fundamental information as well, or do company vs. company comparisons), but it seems a different mailing list might be better suited. As far as I understand, your best bet would be to find a website with this information and write a web scraper. On Thu, Jan 29, 2015 at 4:46 PM, Anshul Pandey <anshul.bits at gmail.com> wrote:

Yes Ilya, I just realized that this is probably not the best place for this question. Sorry about that. I have already scraped wikipedia and historical news articles, but I ended up mismatching quite a few entities. @Brian: I will look into that for sure. Thanks both of you.

There used to be a company called Revere Data that had this information. They were recently acquired by factset. -H On Thu, Jan 29, 2015 at 1:53 PM, Anshul Pandey <anshul.bits at gmail.com> wrote:
