raster calc

I think that the line
*2) |x| is a RasterLayer object; |fun| is a function
in the help page of calc
should be
**2) |x| is a RasterStack object; |fun| is a function*



Anyway, if I want to add 2 rasters (i.e a + b) using the rast package, 
should
I make a raster stack  with them and use calc ?
An example with more than one raster in the help  page would be  very 
helpful.
