spatstat objects and sp: distmap result to sp

Dear Siggeos,

I'm having a hard time at converting
objects to use spatial functions in different
packages. With a lot of help from the list
I've been able to calculate a distmap (package spatstat).
Now I would like to export using rgdal, but
cannot figure out how to convert the object
resulting from distmap (class "im") to an
sp object. I've unsuccessfully tried  as.image.SpatialGridDataFrame.
Any ideas?
