spatial autocorrelation for categorical data.

Is there any spatial autocorrelation chek (like Moran's I) for 
categorical data?

See joincount.test() joincount.multi() in spdep, and do read the help 
pages and the references named on the help pages, especially Cliff & Ord 
(1981) for the background. Googling on Moran join count gives lots of 
hits.
