You might care to report what the problem was? My guess is that you installed rgdal from the current R-forge development version, because the specific line you quote was present between revisions 404 (Tue Dec 11 20:36:52) and 408 (Thu Dec 13 11:50:55). When reporting problems, always provide the output of sessionInfo(), and for rgdal, also the complete package startup message (which now includes the SVN revision). When installing development versions, do wait substantial time to see whether later commits do not remove the problem. Roger

I am using a script I ran just a moment before the update, when it worked perfectly, in which my intention is to read a shapefile. The command looks like this: secciones_espanya <- readOGR("INE_SPAIN.shp", "INE_SPAIN") And when I execute it I am showed this error: Error en file(paste(dsn, .Platform$file.sep, layer, ".dbf", sep = ""), : no se puede abrir la conexi?n Adem?s: Mensajes de aviso perdidos In file(paste(dsn, .Platform$file.sep, layer, ".dbf", sep = ""), : no fue posible abrir el archivo 'INE_SPAIN.shp/INE_SPAIN.dbf': No such file or directory saying the connection could not be open. I have tried with other .shp of my PC that could also be read without problems before the update with the same results. Does anyone know why this is happening?
