plotting bathymetric data?

Dear people,

I have a shapefile with the contour of the coast line and bathymetric data
from 100 to 500 m.

I would like to use maptools package to plot the coastline as continuous
contour and the bathymetries as dashed lines.

I tried to subset only the bathymetries from the original shapefile and
convert them in new shapefile using the function "writeSpatialShape"
without success.

Does anyone known how I can do that?

Any help will be deeply appreciated.
