Fill pattern in plot.SpatialPolygons

Hi,

Is it possible to plot SpatialPolygons using a fill pattern, so that the
polygon is filled not with a solid color but with lines, dots or the like?

If the angle= and density= arguments as described in ?polygon give you 
what you want, yes. They may be used like col=.

Getting a cross-hatch means over-plotting for the affected polygons, again 
in the usual way - the same can be done to mix solid colour and lines.
