Excellent report, thanks very much! This kind of feedback really  
helps push development forward!

Please try the most recent R beta for Windows 64-bit version. It may  
be that the methods issue has been resolved there. If the problem  
persists, please post on R-devel, where your report will reach the  
people with most experience on internal issues.

With regard to spdep, if spam is the only problem, I can change it  
to suggested and condition on it for those needing method="spam" in  
model fitting until it becomes available.

spdep requires spam package which is not yet available for this  
windows and
so cannot be loaded. The package maintainer (Reinhard  Furrer) is  
aware of
the issue and is working on it.

Any work arounds?
