Runtime error when opening netCDF

I am trying to read/open a netCDF file using the ncdf package,

Use package=ncdf4, not package=ncdf: the latter is no longer supported,
per the developer (of both packages).

but it keeps giving me the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error:

Use linux.
