Doubt gstat fitting

Dear list,

I am using fit.variogram funcion in gstat package, trying several least square fitting methods (method 1,2, 6 and 7) and at the same time I am using the "fit range option".

I was wondering if the mentioned weighted least square methods are still being applied?

Regarding fitting range the help of the function says:Because the help funcition says:

"This function uses the internal gstat (C) code, which interates over (a) a direct (least squares) fit of the partial sills and (b) an iterated search, using gradients, for the optimal range value(s), until convergence of after a combined step ((a) and (b)) is reached."

Does "direct (least squares)" mean that the function uses OLS or applies the corresponding fitting method (1,2,6 or 7)?

I appologise if it is a problem of not understanding well the language however I would appreciate someone that can clarify this.
